29 Jun 291: Chair for Domestic Use Half model of chair assembly consisting of metallic and plastic parts, subjected to loads according to the relevant codes which have been reviewed as part of the project. Based on the FEA results, recommendations were given to change the design concept. Posted at 11:18h in Read More
29 Jun 286: Bracket Assembly Linear static stress analysis of a bracket assembly. Multiple designs were analysed with different straight pull loads on the shaft being considered. The acceptance criteria of a minimum factor of safety was analysed. Recommendations were given to use a stronger material, and to alter the design. Posted at 11:17h in Read More
29 Jun 398: Autotag Disinfection Cycle Counter Autotag is a prototype device to count heating cycles of disinfection ovens. The analysis of the 2D model involved complex contact definitions and non-linear, temperature dependent material properties. It replicated the physical test results and provided recommendations on how to make the design work. Posted at 11:17h in Read More
29 Jun 282: Bone Implant Non-linear static stress analysis of a bone implant. In total 7 designs were analysed, each with 2 load cases. For the 2 load cases, the contact between the implant and bone was modelled as bonded or with a non linear surface contact. For each design, the stress on the implant and bones were reported, as well as the displacements of 6 nodes in the axial and circumferential directions. Posted at 11:17h in Read More
29 Jun 276: Tank Linear static stress and buckling analysis of a test model tank, subjected to external pressure. Plate elements were used to represent the geometry, and a quarter symmetry model was used in the analysis. Although the minimum factor safety was acceptable, the buckling load multiplier was was not, and recommendations were made to improve the design. Posted at 11:16h in Read More
29 Jun 273: Turnbuckle Static stress analysis with non-linear contact of a turnbuckle eye end. 2 different designs were analysed, using a quarter model used to represent the geometry in both designs. Both designs were subject to the same axial load. Although both designs passed the acceptance criteria, a high stress gradient was highlighted, suggesting possibly fatigue weakness. 29 Jun 406: Trunnion Ball Valve Linear static stress analysis of a ball valve assembly, using solid elements to represent the geometry. On completion of the analysis, recommendations were given to improve the design to meet the acceptance criteria. Posted at 11:15h in Read More
