Impact of a particle, represented by a steel ball, on a perforated sheet used for a conical strainer for offshore use. The FEA results confirmed that the strainer will withstand the impact of an object with the size, mass and velocity as assumed for the simulation.
Linear static stress of a ship reactor tank assembly, subject to different acceleration loads. Recommendations to modify the design were made and a second design was analysed, which passed the acceptance criteria. Once complete a third design was analysed with different load cases, with the tank at different orientations. The design passed the acceptance criteria for all 4 of these additional load cases.

Three stress load cases were analysed considering different load applications, as well as a buckling analysis due to a vacuum internal pressure. As well as the stresses of the oven itself, the bolt forces were reported for the hinge bolts, leading to a greater understanding of the design.

The two load cases featured different applications of the same design load, which was also defined by the customer. Once analysis was completed, the maximum stresses experienced in each load case were reported and compared to their allowables.

Six load cases were analysed in total, with the loads being different operational circumstances, such as a burst pressure supply line. Solid and beam elements were used for the model. The minimum factor of safety was reported for each load case, highlighting the areas of concern in the design.
