29 Jun 611: Lifting Frame Half model of a lifting frame for different lifting attitudes. The analysis resulted in recommendations on how to improve weaknesses of the initial design. The design modified accordingly then passed the acceptance criteria. Posted at 11:37h in Read More
29 Jun 302: Stemhead Fitting Static stress analysis with non-linear contact of a stemhead fitting for a yacht. 4 load cases were analysed with different operating loads considered, such as the loads due to a dropped anchor. The factor of safety for all components was reported, and where appropriate, recommendations were given on how to strengthen the design. Posted at 11:26h in Read More
29 Jun 322: Ball Valve Non-linear static stress analysis of a ball valve design, using non-linear surface contact and a non-linear material model. Bolt pretensions were also included in the analysis, to accurately represent the stresses in the assembly. The model passed the acceptance criteria, confirming HISC will no occur. 29 Jun 326: Motor Housing Linear elastic stress analysis of a motor housing component, subjected to the moments from motor operation and gearing forces. The design’s suitability was confirmed as the model passed the acceptance criteria without any modifications being required. Posted at 11:25h in Read More
29 Jun 298: Vacuum Chamber Assembly Static stress including non-linear contact, linear buckling and modal analysis of a vacuum chamber assembly. For the stress analysis, 3 different load cases were analysed, with 2 different load cases applying various pressures, and 1 evaluating stresses due to lifting. The stresses in all load cases were reported and the buckling load multiplier. Posted at 11:24h in Read More
29 Jun 371: Composite Collar Assembly Composite collar assembly of submarine subjected to modal analysis, shock, wave slap and hydrodynamic loads. Based on the recommendations given, the design has been modified and re-analysed to confirm the success of the changes. Posted at 11:23h in Read More
29 Jun 296: Storage and Test Tank Linear static stress analysis of a storage tank and a test tank. All element types of solid, plate and beam elements were used in the analyses. For the storage tank, 2 different designs were analysed and 4 for the test tank. Where appropriate, either half or quarter models were used in the analysis. The majority of the tank designs passed the acceptance criteria, with one exception. In this case, recommendations were given on how to improve the design. Posted at 11:23h in Read More
29 Jun 373: Pressure Housing Static stress analysis with non-linear contact and buckling analysis of a pressure housing. Multiple load cases were analysed of two different designs of housing. Both designs were analysed in full, but also using a pie cut symmetry model. One design was also analysed usign a 2D axisymmetric model. For the analyses that showed failure of the design at certain locations for both the stress and buckling analysis, recommendations were given on how to strengthen the design. 29 Jun 375: Crane for Nuclear Facility Complex beam and plate element model of crane subjected to modal analysis, seismic and static loads, analysed for various configurations (crab and carriage positions, masses). Iterative optimisation of the structural sections performed. Project included analysis of rail support beams. Posted at 11:22h in Read More
